Broadway’s Sutton Foster has closed the curtain on her marriage to screenwriter Ted Griffin, filing for divorce after nearly a decade.
The two-time Tony winner, 49, filed for divorce from the “Ocean’s Eleven” and “Rumor Has It…” writer, 53, Tuesday in the New York County Supreme Court, according to court records reviewed by People.
After meeting on a blind date, the “Younger” star — who hunted for a wedding gown at Manhattan’s Kleinfeld, as featured on TLC’s “Say Yes to the Dress” — wed Griffin in October 2014 and welcomed 7-year-old daughter Emily in March 2017 via adoption.
Two years later, Foster spoke to PopSugar about the couple’s fertility struggles, and deciding they should consider adoption as she was undergoing a second round of IVF. Foster revealed in that interview that she recruited her “Younger” co-star Peter Hermann, who adopted two children with wife Mariska Hargitay, to “spearhead the conversation” with Griffin.
It was meeting Griffin that ultimately led Foster to want to pursue motherhood, as she shared in a 2021 essay for People.
“When I met my husband, it was the first time that I finally went, ‘Oh, I get it. I understand why people have families,’” she said at the time. “It was a pretty remarkable journey to finding our family. And she was the missing piece; I just can’t imagine life without her. I feel so blessed that an incredibly brave and strong woman entrusted us to raise her.”
Foster and Griffin’s marriage was her second. The theater staple was previously married to fellow two-time Tony winner Christian Borle.
Representatives for Foster and Griffin could not be immediately reached for comment.
